Arhar is the most popular and widely consumed dal in India and cooked most often in Indian households. This dal is known with many different names in different part of India, like Tuvar dal, Toovar dal. In Northern part of Indian it is known as yellow dal (peeli dal) or Arhar dal, Tadka dal and yellow pigeon peas in English. Arhar dal is extremely nutritious and an easy dish to make, with a simple seasoning of cumin seeds and asafetida. It is cooked with various seasonings and techniques in the different parts of India. This unpolished variant has a better taste, more nutritional benefits and less artificial additives.
Mahesh Sanwal is a young and progressive farmer from Naya Pandaygaon, Kotabagh, Uttarakhand Region. He has been following responsible farming methodologies for sometime now and has been working with other farmers in the region to help them make the shift as well. Mahesh has formed a farmer cooperative, under the name of Devbhoomi Farmers.
